How do I make a reservation?
Making a reservation is simple. Just book online! We do advise booking as early as possible to make sure that the day and time that you'd like is available. Walk-up customers are always welcome too, although we may not have the equipment you're looking for available. All reservations must be paid in full in order to be held. You won't be asked to provide the damage deposit until the day of your rental.
I've never driven a boat or a waverunner before? Is it difficult? Is it safe?
Driving a boat or a Waverunner can (and should) be extremely fun. Our staff will make sure to answer any questions and tell you anything you need to know in order to have a fun, safe, relaxing time on the water. Most new boaters stress out the most about close quarters situations involving docking a boat or being in close contact with other boats. We will always have 1 or 2 dock attendants on duty to help you leave and enter the marina safely. All you'll need to do is slowly approach the dock and point the bow to where one of our staff members tells you, and we'll make sure to catch the boat or Waverunner and help you get it put away against the dock.
Can I pick up friends during my rental?
No.
We have a strict policy against pick ups and drop offs. Once you have gone through the safety walkthrough and leave the marina, you need to remain out on the water until your rental time ends or you are ready to be done. It is important for all members of your party to arrive and leave together in order to ensure their safety, and the safety of the equipment.
Can I go anywhere on the lake?
No, there are a few restrictions.
We do not allow our motorized equipment to travel into a few shallow areas as well as one main restriction. Those areas are:
Yarrow Bay
Juanita Bay
Lake Union
However, Lake Washington is a very large lake and you have a great area to enjoy and explore. Head north or south and enjoy the almost 34 square miles of water at your disposal.
Do I need a wetsuit if I plan on getting in the water?
Lake Washington can be a bit chilly from May to mid-June and from mid-September on, but the water temps in July and August typically range from 66-75 degrees. While some people may prefer a wetsuit, you shouldn't need one at any point during your rental. Based on the fact that a wetsuit needs to fit snugly in order to work properly, we would need to carry dozens of wetsuits in order to have the right size for all of our customers. Because we're limited on space, unfortunately we don't offer wetsuits or wetsuit rentals.
What should I wear?
When renting a Waverunner or SUP board, chances are, you're going to get wet. With that said, just be sure to wear a swimsuit or clothing that you won't mind getting wet. Please make a mental note on the day of your rental to put your personal belongings that cannot get wet (cell phones, wallets, etc) in your locked car before you head out on the water. If you're renting a boat, what you wear is really up to you, but choosing something comfortable and practical is your best bet. For guys, we recommend wearing boardshorts and a t-shirt onto the boat. Most women prefer to wear shorts and a t-shirt over a bathing suit. Two-piece bathing suits work fine, although if you have a pair of boardshorts or running shorts to wear over your bottoms while you're in the water, that's usually a good idea. If your rental is scheduled early in the morning or later in the evening, a sweatshirt is a great idea. Sunglasses, hats, and sweatpants are optional, but worth considering based on the weather. You will be asked to remove your shoes before getting into the boat (you'll bring them aboard with you), so sandals or flip-flops work the best.
I'd like to try wakeboarding but have never gotten up. Is renting a boat from you and trying to figure it out on my own a good idea?
That depends on you. If part of the fun for you will be trying to figure out wakeboarding or waterskiing on your own, then you should go for it. However, if your experience would be made better by having someone on the boat coach you, we'd recommend booking our wakeboard boat specifically. The driver/instructor can teach you everything you need to know in a comfortable setting where learning is all you have to focus on.
I understand that I'll be charged for the fuel I use in addition to the price of my rental. How much fuel should I expect a boat or Waverunner to use per hour?
Boats and Waverunners vary widely in fuel consumption. It really depends on how you're driving the equipment. Think of the watercraft like you would a car. Driving at a slow, consistent speed will burn fuel at a much slower rate than starting and stopping, accelerating quickly, or making quick abrupt turns. One hour on a boat driven gently might only use 3-6 gallons, while heavy use may go thru two to three times that much. The same principle applies to a Waverunner where at normal operating, you're likely to burn through 3-5 gallons per hour.
What happens if I damage the piece of equipment that I'm renting?
We expect that over the lifetime of our rental equipment, it will see some normal wear and tear. However, if you return our equipment with dings/dents/scratches/ripped upholstery/etc that wouldn't occur from normal use, we will charge your credit card whatever it costs us to have the equipment repaired. This is not an issue we expect to happen with even the slightest bit of frequency, but should the need arise, we work with some great companies that charge very fair prices for repairs. In the event of equipment damage, we're simply concerned about getting our equipment back in good repair, not gouging you on the price for those repairs.
Additionally, if the particular piece of equipment needs to be taken in for repairs, you will be charged the day rate for the damaged equipment each day until we're able to put it back in use.
It's in our best interest to get all damaged equipment back into service as soon as possible, so we will do everything in our power to avoid downtime for repairs.
What happens if the weather turns out to be rainy or windy on the day I booked my rental? Do you have an inclement weather policy?
Inclement weather needs to be planned for by the Renter. A rental credit WILL NOT be given for bad weather unless the weather in question involves conditions deemed too dangerous for the use of equipment by the on-site manager. In the event the on-site manager does consider conditions too dangerous, you will be given a rental credit to use another day. Bottom line, we live in the northwest and the weather changes frequently and needs to be accounted for when booking.
What is your cancellation policy?
Any cancellation made prior to 7 days (168 hours) before your rental will be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within the 7 day window will not be eligible for a refund and will not be able to reschedule to a different time. We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes, but because most of our reservations are made more than 1 week in advance, cancelling your reservation less than 7 days in advance does not give us the time we need to re-book your spot.
What if I'd like to add more time to my rental once I'm on the water?
Although we typically book at full capacity more than a week in advance, in the unlikely event that there does happen to be availability directly after your time slot when you start your rental, chances are we will fill it while you are on the water. Please do not assume that you can stay on the water longer than your reservation. All renters must either speak with one of our staff (voicemails don't count) or come back to the marina to confirm the extension of your reservation. If you return your equipment late, the following charges will apply:
Boats
1 - 10 min late is $2.50/minute
11-15 min late is $5/minute
16+ min late is DOUBLE the price of next rental (minimum of 2 hours)
Waverunners
1 - 10 min late is $1.50/minute
11-15 min late is $5/minute
16+ min late is DOUBLE the price of next rental (minimum of 2 hours)
Paddleboards/Kayaks
1 - 10 min late is $0.50/minute
11-15 min late is $2/minute
16+ min late is DOUBLE the price of next rental (minimum of 2 hours)
Basically, if you cause the next group to be late or miss their reservation, you will end up paying for not only the time you used, but the price it cost us to reimburse our customers for the time they lost.
This policy ensures that we never have anyone show up for a rental and don't have their equipment ready for them. In the extremely rare case where this happens, if you show up for a rental and another customer returns it late enough for you to get either a late start or to miss your rental, we will give you a full refund AND give you a free rental of equal length anytime that equipment is available.
I like the idea of taking a boat out on Lake Washington (Kirkland / Seattle), but would prefer not to drive it. Is it possible to have you provide a driver to take my group and I out on the water?
Our Wake Boat is a great option in this situation. Due to US Coast Guard regulations, there is a 6-passenger max (in addition to the driver). This gives you a licensed Captain (Driver) to manage all of the operation while you sit back and have a carefree experience on the water. Plus, the wake boat rental comes with all the wake gear and instruction should you want to learn while out on Lake Washington. We recommend booking at least a week in advance as there is only one wake boat available and it tends to book quickly.
Can I bring alcohol on the boat?
As long as you're following WA State laws and anyone drinking is 21 years of age or older, we don't mind you bringing alcohol on board. It can definitely add to the enjoyment of your rental experience to bring some cold drinks out on the water for passengers on a hot day, or to have some cocktails or a bottle of wine during an evening boat cruise. However, we have a zero tolerance policy for anyone driving one of our boats under the influence. If we have reason to believe that you have been driving one of our boats or Waverunners under the influence, we WILL keep your entire damage deposit whether damage has occurred or not, and contact law enforcement for putting our equipment and the lives of those in your boat and on the lake at risk.
Do I need to have a Credit Card to Rent a Boat or Jet Ski?
Yes.
To rent our motorized equipment (boat or jet ski), you must place a deposit with a major credit card. Please view the common questions related to the damage deposit below. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call us at 425-999-1784 and we will be happy to discuss the rental payment procedure further with you.
My Debit Card has a Visa/MasterCard/AMEX/Discover logo. Can I use it?
Sorry, we do not take debit despite the fact it is issued by a major card company. If the card is not credit we cannot accept it for a damage deposit. Because limits/balances on debit cards are cash based we cannot be certain that a renter will have the funds available should damage from negligence occur.
Do you charge my credit card ahead of time for the damage deposit?
No. We hold your card information on file until your rental is returned. If damage occurs during your rental we will assess that on-site at the time of the return and will issue you a quote within 48 hours and a damage hold amount will be charged. Once the actual repair is completed, any further charges or potential refunds will be run.
Why don't you offer insurance for a small fee instead of a damage deposit?
Our insurance does not offer this option to us as renting motorized watercraft is completely different that renting a car or other on-land motorized vehicle.
While we have considered offering insurance ourselves, we have decided against it. There are multiple reasons for this, but the primary factor in making this decision is the simple fact that when insurance is offered for a nominal amount, some renters treat the equipment poorly and take on the mentality that they can use it any way they please even if that is outside of our expectations and guidelines. The damage deposit should not be a concern at all for our renters that follow the rules and respect the equipment.
Is there anywhere to grab food and drinks nearby?
Definitely! There are lots of choices right here on-site. Plenty of our renters like to arrive early and grab food prior to heading out on the water or after they get back as well.
